It’s the annual workshop— and that means it’s time for SND Foundation Late-Night Karaoke at #SNDChicago. The fun starts at 9 p.m. on April 5 at the Mayfair Room, which opens onto a terrace that overlooks the Chicago River, inside the Sheraton Grand Chicago.
Every year we raise a fair amount of money from the people who come to the annual workshop to benefit the work of SNDF. We will charge a $5 donation fee at the door, with all proceeds going to the SND Foundation. If you’re already coming to [email protected], you are already in for karaoke, which happens in the same room. The $5 entry fee means we bring in more money to the Foundation while also allowing Chicago attendees the chance to mix and mingle with no pressure to sing. If you do not want to sing, we will never make you. Come for the camaraderie.
We also expand the fun so you can play along at home. You can contribute money to the SND Foundation and challenge your friends and colleagues to perform songs. Just visit our donation site here. Make a pledge. Then send a tweet with your song request to @sndkaraoke. We’ll be sharing the performances and photos through Twitter and online.
This year, our goal is to raise $6,000 to fund the SND Foundation program that provides travel grants for students to the SND Annual Workshop. We just announced the recipients for this year in Chicago if you want to meet the talented people who benefit from these grants.
The Foundation also provides grants to the student designers of the year, outreach to minority journalists and journalism students at universities with large minority enrollments, and provides research grants for projects on the future of journalism developed in partnership with other journalism organizations.
